PACFA ACCAPE Webinar December

Philosophy of Practice: Folios of evidence and course accreditation

2 December: 7:30pm-9:00pm AEDT

This is the last session in the 2020 ACCAPE Webinar Series:
Integrating a philosophy of practice into Counselling and Psychotherapy accredited training: New controversies and new challenges in 2020.

Articulating a philosophy of practice is central to developing a congruent and critical view of theory and practice for students graduating from counselling and psychotherapy courses. The PACFA Training Standards require training providers to make a clear statement of the philosophy of training underpinning the course and note that graduates should be able to apply knowledge and skills to: Personal and professional development; An integration of theory and practice; and Reflection on the nature of the therapeutic process. A philosophy of practice articulates how these three aspects weave together.

This webinar considers how this is reflected in Psychotherapy Training Standards, how it might be made more explicit in the PACFA Training Standards, how it may to be interpreted in the assessment of individual and course accreditation applications and why the importance given to the singularity of each student practitioner’s experience should distinguish psychotherapy and counselling training from the generic emphasis on manualised practices and multiple choice assessment.
