HOW WELL INFORMED ARE YOU ABOUT THE TWO KEY AREAS OF CONFIDENTIALITY AND INFORMED CONSENT?
Have you ever had a client say one of the following?
‘He’s driving me nuts- I want to kill him’
‘This will be our last session- thanks for everything you’ve done ’
‘My daughter’s been watching ‘13 Reasons Why’ and I’m worried…’
‘My son is mixed up with drugs and I don’t know what to do’
If you have not actually experienced these – how will you react if/when you do?
You might want to ask yourself the following questions:
- What is actually meant by “informed consent”?
- Does your informed consent documentation cover all current legal issues?
- When and how do you break confidentiality?
- What happens if you are legally bound and don’t report?
- Who is legally bound to report?
- What are the implications for record keeping that ensure you are practising safely, ethically and legally?
This webinar will focus on these two areas that traditionally result in much questioning by practitioners. While not seeking to provide answers to all of the above questions, it is hoped these webinars will stimulate discussion and prompt you, to look further and more widely for yourselves to apply to your practice. Information will be provided on relevant and important resources to assist with this exploration.

PRESENTERS
 CRYSTAL LOCKARD
I have worked in the health and welfare sector for more than 25 years and specifically in private practice since 1999, with extensive experience in family and relationship counselling. Other areas in which I have provided counselling include general mental health issues, substance abuse and chronic and life threatening health conditions.
I have been a trainer and educator in the mental health and welfare sector and a clinical supervisor for more than 15 years. I have been a past coordinator of the Mental Health Professionals (Northern Sydney) Network, and a past board member of the Counsellors and Psychotherapy Association of NSW and the Cancer Counselling Professionals. I am currently a member of the PACFA Ethics Committee.
 MAXINE ROSENFIELD
I am self -employed and contract to provide training and supervision for organisations in the community sector as well as working as a counsellor and clinical supervisor from two practices on Sydney’s Northern beaches, where I work face to face and by phone and by Zoom or Skype
I teach online as well as on campus for courses including: students of the Bachelors courses Counselling and Social Work at the Australian College of Applied Psychology. I also supervise undergraduate students on their clinical placements. Additionally I provide tutorials and supervision for Bachelors and Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy placement students at Western Sydney University and teach international students studying Bachelors of Community Services at Stotts College.
Apart from sitting on the PACFA Ethics Committee, I am a Board of the Australasian Association of Supervision and am a co-founder and former Board member of Cancer Counselling Professionals Inc.
KRIS RAO
Kris brings decades of experience in teaching, developing, implementing, and delivering academic programmes across the Asia Pacific. His expansive career spans community services, psychotherapy, higher education and community service sectors. He has a Masters in Social Science (Counselling), a Master of Science in Medicine (Psychotherapy) and is a Doctoral Candidate. Kris teaches ethics as adjunct faculty at universities and higher education institutions across Australia and New Zealand.
