Many of the everyday ethical questions raised by PACFA members come from experienced practitioners seeking advice and or guidance on new issues that have arisen in their practice or amongst the client group they are servicing.  PACFA has developed a course in partnership with the Cairnmillar institute that addresses common ethical questions and gives participants the opportunity to strengthen their ethical practice.The course was developed in partnership with the Cairnmillar Institute and is delivered over a series of lectures and 4 interactive sessions that allow participants to work through scenarios and learn from the experience of other counsellors and psychotherapists.

Participants complete the course at their own pace over a 2 week period using the Moodle e-learning system. There are 4 interactive sessions which run at scheduled times and participants will need to participate in the majority of these interactive sessions. Teaching and learning approaches include audio-visual materials, case studies, recorded lectures, online communication threads and facilitated discussions.

The learning modules cover
- Ethical Principles and Practice and working within and understanding Codes of Ethics
- Stages of Ethical Decision Making - including common ethical traps 
- Record Keeping - including record keeping for social media connections 
- Dual Relationships - including boundary-crossing and self-reflection 
- Confidentiality - including when it’s OK to break confidentiality; Mandatory Reporting & Subpoenas
- Cultural Sensitivity - strategies for developing an inclusive and culturally sensitive approach

Facilitator:

Jenny Coburn

Jenny is a Senior Lecturer with the Cairnmillar Institute. She began her career as a counsellor in 1992, later becoming a registered psychologist. Over the past 25 years, she has worked in private practice, non-government organisations, therapeutic communities, residential rehabilitation centres and corporate environments, specialising in alcohol and other drug counselling and mental health. Jenny has had many years of experience working with mandated clients and has had extensive experience in assessment and court reporting. She is trained in Cognitive Behaviour therapies, Humanistic and Post-modern therapeutic approaches (Narrative Therapy and Solution Focused). Jenny shares the Course Coordinator duties for the Graduate Certificate, Graduate Diploma and Masters of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Members $220 (inc. GST) for PACFA Registrants and  PACFA Member Association members.
Non-member $320 (inc. GST).
For PACFA Registrants, the course counts as 6 hours of Category A CPD (Continuing Professional Development).

REFUND POLICY:
Cancellations made 5 or less working days prior to the course commencement date are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to a future course or event. 
Cancellations of more than 5 working days may apply for a refund.
