Thinking About a Philosophy of Practice for Counsellors and Psychotherapists

What does it mean to have a relevant understanding of the theories and philosophies implicit in your therapeutic practice and therapy education? How can we broaden from a “fix it” intention to a “questioning” intention?
In this workshop you will be invited to:
1. Inquire into how you make meaning in your practice;
2. Ask what values flow into and through your practice;
3. Inquire into the relevance of a philosophy of practice in therapeutic encounter, self-reflection and change for your clients.
There will be opportunities for reflection on the relevance of the arts, literature and culture to your philosophy of practice. The workshop will be experiential. Participants will be given opportunities to break into small groups, share theoretical models and map how to deepen responsibility, curiosity and a philosophy of practice.
PRESENTER:
Dr. Andrea Breen PhD is a psychotherapist/creative arts therapist, supervisor and educator living in Hobart. She draws on experience from working in refugee health, family therapy, relationship therapy, play therapy, child-inclusive mediation, trauma survival, family violence, EAP and aged care. She is currently in private practice and teaches in the Therapeutic Arts Practice program for the MIECAT Institute; she has taught English Studies, Gender Studies, Environmental Literature and Counselling at the University of Tasmania and counselling at Tabor College and Latrobe. She is also a writer and sound artist.

There will be a Wine and cheese platter on arrival. Half way through the presentation - light supper of soup, savoury nibbles, cake and fruit platter.
For PACFA Registrants, the workshop counts as 2 hours of Category A CPD (Continuing Professional Development).
