Existential Crises of Loneliness Today

Dr Grace Tarpey will explore the crisis of loneliness which is showing up in the world. The current global pandemic has caused isolation that has both generated and revealed systemic social, political and economic cracks but also psychological crises. Depression, anxiety and a disabling sense of emptiness is the experience for many at this time. Grace will show how psychoanalysis can provide an antidote to loneliness as it is a response to the existential void within.  The analyst stands in the place of the ideal Other to serve as a support for psychological and emotional suffering, showing that there is an infinite time in the present moment, a time of openness for desire and love.

For PACFA Registrants, this Networking PD counts as 1.5 hours of Category A CPD and will strictly be limited to 30 participants due to covid restrictions.

Dr Grace Tarpey 

Grace is a psychoanalyst in private practice in West Perth working clinically for twenty years. She has trained in various traditions such as Classical Freudian and Lacanian Psychoanalysis, Object Relations, Self Psychology, Attachment Theory, Relational Psychoanalysis, Client Centred Therapy and Group Psychodynamics.
Grace is a member of the World Association of Psychoanalysis, the New Lacanian Society and The Lacan Circle of Australia.
Previously an academic in Philosophy and the Humanities at Monash, Deakin, La Trobe and Notre Dame Universities, Grace has also lectured in Psychotherapy and Counselling at Murdoch and ECU.
