Bupa launches Indigenous Counselling 

First Nations practising members of PACFA can now apply to become Bupa recognised providers of Indigenous Counselling. 

Developed by BUPA, with consultation with PACFA and our College of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Healing Practices (CATSIHP), Indigenous Counselling provider recognition was launched on 1 April 2022. 

Eligible Bupa customers can claim a rebate for services from Indigenous Counselling providers in the same manner and for the same rebate amount as the current counselling items. 

PACFA members may apply to become a Bupa recognised Indigenous Counselling provider. Bupa’s recognition criteria includes:  

  • First Nations members
  • In private practice 
  • Studied counselling for at least two years 
  • Training at a minimum of a Diploma level (AQF5) 
  • Training course must include a minimum of 40 hours of supervised client contact during training.

First Nations members of PACFA who are already registered Bupa-recognised counselling providers may nominate to be recognised as an Indigenous Counselling provider.
