About me

My practice
I’m Mark McIntyre, a Gestalt therapist with a growing interest in Internal Family Systems (IFS). My approach is relational and experiential, grounded in presence and authenticity. While I’m newer to the profession of therapy, I bring a lifetime of experience that deeply informs how I work.

I’ve lived several lives—school teacher, IT consultant, small business owner, and parent. Each of these roles has shaped the way I relate to people. I began my career in education, and I’ve always felt a natural connection with children and young people, especially those who are struggling. I found that when I met them without judgement, simply as fellow human beings, they often responded in surprising and meaningful ways. That same spirit guides my work in the therapy room.

My qualifications include a Master of Gestalt Therapy, a Diploma of Teaching, and a Certificate in Holistic Counselling. I’m registered with PACFA as a Certified Practising Counsellor (Registration No. 31720). I’ve trained to work with individuals, couples, and groups—including families. While my experience with couples and group work is at an early stage, I offer this work openly and transparently for those who feel a connection with my approach.

I see therapy as a space where nothing needs to be forced or fixed. It’s a place where all parts of you are welcome, including those you may struggle to accept. Together, we can slow down and bring gentle attention to what is present—pain, confusion, numbness, frustration, or longing—and see what emerges when it’s met with curiosity rather than judgement.

I identify as a cisgender man and recognise the influence that has on how I move through the world. I welcome people of all gender identities and expressions, including those who are trans, non-binary, or gender diverse. I also warmly welcome neurodivergent clients. My commitment is to listen without assumptions and to meet you as you are.

I also believe that for therapy to be effective, the therapist must be engaged in ongoing personal work. I’ve had my own therapy for many years and continue to do so. I see this as essential in staying aware of my own patterns and making sure the space remains about you, not me. I also participate in regular professional supervision and will always be honest if something is outside my current scope of experience.

If you’re feeling uncertain or anxious about starting therapy, that’s completely natural. In our first session, we’ll take time to get to know each other and explore what’s brought you here. We’ll look at what you’d like to focus on and co-create a sense of what support might look like going forward.

If that feels like the kind of space you’re seeking, I’d be glad to hear from you.
