About me

My practice
Marcus is a person-centred psychotherapist who specialises in using Emotion Focused Therapy to create a safe, affirming and compassionate therapeutic space that supports his clients on their growth and healing journeys. Starting with the cultivation of an empathically attuned therapeutic relationship, Marcus will support you in exploring your presenting issues and making sense of the underlying emotional causes. Through this experiential process of discovery, always guided entirely by the wisdom of your present-moment experiencing and somatic felt sense, you will gain an awareness of your emotions and work towards processing and transforming them. As clarity and flow emerge, you will feel able to engage with life in a more fulfilling, whole and integrated way.

In addition to this person-centred foundation, Marcus’s therapeutic approach is also client-specific in how he views each person and their needs as unique and ever-changing. If needed, he can work with you using an integrative mix of psychotherapy modalities and interventions to meet you wherever you are with whatever is most important for you. He will strive to engage with you authentically as a 'fellow traveller' on this journey called life. As such, along with his expertise in psychotherapy, he will also bring to his sessions the combined wisdom and influence of eastern and western philosophy, Zen Buddhism, literature, film, and poetry. He meditates daily and aspires to practice mindful presence in every moment of his life–an attitude that he also brings to his psychotherapy practice. His approach is informed and guided by emotion theory, attachment theory, and affective neuroscience.

Marcus holds a Master of Counselling and Psychotherapy (The Cairnmillar Institute) and is PACFA accredited. He has also completed Level 1 and Level 2 of Emotion Focused Therapy accreditation with The Australian Institute of Emotion Focused Therapy (AIEFT).

His experience covers working with a diverse range of people in an empathic, warm, non-judgemental, affirming, safe, and trauma-informed way. He strives to be accepting in his practice, particularly in relation to all aspects of identity including cultural identity, neurodiversity, gender, disability, age, and sexuality.
