About me

My practice
Mathew Bergan (he/they) is a Sydney-based psychotherapist specialising in trauma-informed, relational care. With advanced training in Gestalt Therapy, Brainspotting, and EMDR, Mathew supports men and LGBTQIA+ individuals in navigating identity, relationships, and emotional regulation. Have a free 15-minute consult with Matt. There’s absolutely no-obligation or sales pitch behind the call. It’s about defining the best way forward to meet your personal needs, and see if Matt’s therapy skills and lived experience, is the right kind of support for you.

Mathew provides a safe, inclusive environment for clients to explore their experiences and cultivate meaningful, long-term change.

Mathew holds a Graduate Diploma in Counselling and an Advanced Certificate in Gestalt Therapy. He is a certified practitioner in Brainspotting and EMDR, integrating these advanced somatic tools to help clients process trauma that talk therapy alone may not reach.

Bringing both professional expertise and lived experience to his work, Mathew is particularly passionate about supporting:

Men’s Wellbeing: Navigating issues of belonging, identity, and the process of ageing.

LGBTQIA+ Communities: Providing gender-affirming and inclusive support for individuals navigating sexuality, relationships, and cultural diversity.

Neuro-affirming Care: Supporting those managing the unique patterns of ADHD and OCD.

Women: Supporting women who seek meaning, belonging and support outside of patriarchal institutions including the workforce, socialised family structures, and conservative views around eros and desire.

Mathew’s goal is to help clients uncover the patterns shaping their lives, fostering resilience and a deeper sense of self-understanding. His practice is located in private, sunlit, and easy-to-access rooms in Surry Hills and Tempe. He is available for 60-minute face-to-face sessions, online appointments via Zoom, or phone consultations.
