About me

My practice
Cathy is an experienced Clinical Counsellor who provides Counselling for individuals over 18 and Relationship Counselling for couples.

Cathy offers individual Counselling for men and women who are living with depresssion, anxiety in its various forms, stress, grief, chronic pain, facing the challenges of change and life transitions, relationship concerns, addictions, trauma and self harm.

Cathy has a special interest in working with couples to enhance relationships, manage conflict, improve communication, process betrayals, manage stressors that impact relationships and is a qualified facilitator in ‘prepare-enrich’ marriage preparation. Cathy can also help in navigating and mediating parenting and other non legal negotiations for separation to promote better outcomes and adjustments for all.

Cathy is experienced in providing compassionate Grief Counselling for bereaved and dying adults as well as supporting those who have experienced past or recent trauma, domestic violence or childhood abuse.

In Individual Counselling, Cathy uses an Integrative Approach that involves assessment, identifying your unique needs and together developing goals and a plan for treatment. Because everyone is different, Cathy draws on a variety of theories and techniques depending on your needs and preferences from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Schema Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy and various Bereavement, Crisis and Trauma Counselling models.

In Couples Counselling, Cathy draws on techniques from Acceptance Commitment Therapy for Couples (ACT), Gottman’s Sound Marital House Theory, Solution Focused approaches Couples Therapy and Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT) depending on the needs of the couple and the length of Counselling.

As well as face-to-face Counselling, Cathy offers Skype, telephone, FaceTime and WhatsApp Counselling to those clients who need to be home with children, have mobility restrictions, live in remote areas, interstate or overseas.

Pensioner and Self funding Tertiary Student discounts available.

Cathy is SIRA Workcover approved for those accessing Counselling under workers compensation and is also available for Counselling via Employee Assistance Programs (EAP) where the employer is invoiced following sessions (with prior approval). Some Health fund rebates may be available with Medibank Private or BUPA.
