About me

My practice
I began counselling professionally in 2008.

I have spend a number of years in counselling and mental health support roles in regional South Australia and have worked for a decade in loss and grief counselling and Suicide Bereavement support working with Adults, children and young people, couples, families and groups. I'm very comfortable talking about suicide and working in the suicide prevention/postvention space.

I've run training sessions around suicide bereavement support, as well as informing and supporting children after a death has happened which often invoves supporting their adults as well. I've worked with people accross the lifespan and have experience in working with mental health and complex trauma responses such as Complex PTSD and DID. I have a passion for supporting members of the forces and emergency services who experience complex trauma reactions. I have a passion for working with people who have been or are at risk of incarceration.

I work from a Person Centred Approach and draw in other skills and knowledge where useful. I believe in the power of humour and relatable stories and analogies and often find that I'm using everything from nature to music and movies to illustrate an idea or way forward. I Approach the person as an individual, offering them uncoditional positive regard and compassion. I listen intently to the story and seek understanding about the situation/problems before giving my own input. I will utilise "What works in therapy" and use skills from various counselling methods (Person Centred Therapy, ACT, DBT, Mindfulness, CBT, EFT, family systems therapy, couples therapy) to help a client/clients.

I'm a runner and musician and will often use my learnings from these areas of life in counselling.
