About me

My practice
Sonja Baram is a narrative therapist and counsellor with 20 years experience in community Adult and Family Relationship counselling. Sessions can be focussed on a particular issue to explore from a Narrative Invitational and Trauma and Gender responsive approach. Alternatively therapy may be long termed focused on respectful relationships and understanding identity or the self in relation to one's own preferences for living and others. She has a strong interest in Relationship & Couple work, particularly informed by understandings of the politics of power, relationships and social culture - "its where the Magic Happens!"

Sonja also works with folk from a Trauma & Gendered Informed Approach to people affected by Childhood Sexual Abuse, Sexual Trauma and Domestic Violence, looking at the effects of power and objectification on both Men & Women. And takes a Family Therapy & Open Dialogue approach to Mental Health presentations. Always with foundations in rigorous Narrative and Invitational Therapies that have developmental origins in Adelaide and now have international reach and influence.

Family Law Counselling
Sonja works in her capacity as a private Registered Clinical Counsellor as an expert witness to the Family Law Court of Australia in matters of family separation. Lawyers can refer for reportable and non-reportable family therapy and counselling in legal matters.

Sonja provides accredited supervision and teaching, specialising in narrative and collaborative therapies, therapy and listening as activism, and in non-violence work.

Sonja is an associate editor with the Australian and New Zealand Journal of Family Therapy
