My practice
Welcome! My name is Heather. I'm a professional counsellor, and a clinically registered member of PACFA. I'm a registered provider with WorkCover Queensland, and also an approved provider with NDIS.
Trained and experienced in a range of evidence-based counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches, I'm also dedicated to maintaining the highest possible standard of professional practice, and care.
While using a Trauma Informed, Strengths Based, and Person Centred approach, it is my genuinely non judgmental, kind, and highly empathic nature which is always central to my practice. It is this which lays at the core of the support I provide to my clients, which helps them address their issues, meet their needs, and achieve their goals.
Alongside my private practice, I work as a Specialist Trauma Counsellor with a Domestic and Family Violence, and Sexual Assault Service.
As a professional counsellor, I am knowledgeable and experienced in the application of a range of evidence based counselling and psychotherapeutic approaches.
Those approaches which I more commonly use, due to their diverse applicability, are, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT); narrative therapy; and, solution focused brief therapy (SFBT).
At all times, I use a Person Centred, Trauma Informed, approach.
With a broad area of interest and experience, I am qualified to work with a range of issues, such as - those relating to trauma, relationships, domestic, family and sexual violence/abuse, narcissistic abuse, separation and divorce, disability, parenting, conflict, grief & loss, adolescence, self esteem, workplace difficulties, searching for direction, transitioning, and, anxiety and stress.
I work with children, young people, and adults – as individuals, couples, and/or families. Regardless of whom I am working with, my trauma informed, non-judgmental, and empathic approach stems from my insight into the complexities of, not only life, but, also, human nature itself.
With my deep insight into the complexities of life and human nature, I can support clients to gain greater awareness of themselves, develop methods/coping strategies for establishing healthier relationships with themselves, and others, manage and/or reduce stress and anxiety, and, generally, become more empowered in their everyday functioning, in and throughout their lives.
