About me

My practice
Penny is a trauma and addiction recovery specialist. She works within a trauma-informed framework drawing from a wide range of therapies. Not a 'one size fits all' system. Her work is guided by the principles of attachment theory. Penny's study of interpersonal neurobiology informs her how the synaptic shadows of our past directly influence how we experience our present reality. Trauma in the past can affect our current nervous system functioning. Penny finds Somatic Experiencing therapy, created by Peter Levine, effective in reducing stress and trauma recovery. She uses SE techniques aimed at relieving and resolving triggers of trauma, which often lead clients to feel, stuck in past pains and defensive approaches. Penny brings a curiosity to the body's sensations and responses to life in each current moment. She is passionate about celebrating the courage involved in overcoming life's struggles. Forming a supportive relationship is a key strength of Penny's.
Penny is also trained in Gottman Relationship Model for Couple Therapy and Prepare Enrich which she uses for marriage preparation.
In 2020 Penny opened a free all addictions intensive group therapy practice in Gladesville called The Overcomers Place.
In 2024 Penny completed her training to be an Accredited Clinical Supervisor with PACFA.
