About me

My practice
Alyson is a Counsellor with over 20 years experience working in community settings and therapeutic services supporting people through many of life’s changes and transitions. Some of these include illness, ageing, addiction, relationship challenges, single and multiple traumatic experiences and grief associated with the loss of how things were ‘meant’ to be. Alyson has worked with children and their primary givers, adolescents and adults.

Alyson’s aim is to introduce new possibilities for experiencing emotions as signposts to meaningful self-understanding, compassion and growth, rather than problems to be solved. Like water, emotions can be considered as constantly moving. Sometimes calm, stormy, unpredictable, flowing, and sometimes hot or cold. She believes that by acknowledging and accepting all emotions as meaningful, we can learn to ‘dance with our feet in the water’, creating a pathway to living our lives in ways that matter to us, for the benefit of ourselves and others.

Alyson’s intention is to provide the conditions that support expansiveness, self-understanding, deepening insight and the emergence of ‘possibility’.

Alyson draws from a range of theoretical frameworks as well as philosophy, existentialism, music and art for health and wellbeing. She is an accredited DRUMBEAT facilitator, and a Sandplay therapist.
