About me

My practice
The Pax Centre offers individualized approach to those who are suffering from the effects of a traumatic experience. Kylie is a warm, compassionate counsellor who provides a safe, non-threatening environment for her clients. Kylie has developed extensive experience working with a range of mental health issues such as personality and mood disorders. In particular, she has developed a special skill set to treat individuals who suffer from trauma related symptoms as well as substance abuse. In addition, Kylie is also an experienced couple’s counsellor.

Kylie is very passionate about the area of trauma and from her experience, has come to understand how it often underpins many mental health disorders. As many before have already noted (Bessel Van Der Kolk, Francis Shapiro) when an individual is exposed to repeated danger or even a single incident trauma, changes in our brain can occur and the trauma becomes locked. If this occurs, an individual may experience a variety of trauma related symptoms. Substance or alcohol abuse is just one example of what individuals will use in order to cope with the trauma related symptoms. However, this often results in complicating one’s life further and leaves the trauma unresolved. What Kylie has come to understand, it is not a simple process to just stop abusing alcohol or a substance. Therefore she will gently lead a client into using other methods to manage their trauma symptoms. Then, if it’s mutually agreeable she can assist the client in processing the trauma which is often at the root of their current issues. Kylie will use her skills in Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) and Schema Therapy to aid in this processing. A part from her abilities in trauma processing, Kylie will also use her knowledge in Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Metallization Based Therapy (MBT) when working with clients.
