My practice
Best Life Therapy & Mediation is owned by Maria Sleight, providing services specialising in mediation, family dispute resolution, family court report writing and psychotherapy. She is a Registered Clinical Counsellor & Psychotherapist (PACFA), a Registered Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner (Attorney General's Department), a Nationally Accredited Mediator (NMAS) and an Accredited Parenting Coordinator (Parenting Coordination Australia).

As a Psychotherapist, Counsellor and Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner, I primarily work with individuals and families who have been struggling with co-parenting. I am dedicated in helping families to develop and implement effective parenting plans. I am very experienced in working with people who are in conflict.

I specialise in facilitating a process where people are able to have challenging conversations in a controlled environment. Are you having difficulties trying to work out living arrangements for your children? Or anxious about what co-parenting will look like across two households? Do you need to discuss how you are going to financially support and make important decisions about your children now that you have separated? Seems overwhelming? It doesn’t need to be. I am here to help you overcome some of your fears by guiding you towards a workable resolution.

I have also worked with families and individuals who have experienced trauma. People can experience things in different ways. You might relate to some of these issues such as anxiety, PTSD, OCD or panic attacks. You may also relate to issues associated with family conflict, things like family separation which may include feelings of guilt, grief & loss, sadness, and fear, just to name a few. I truly believe that there is no ‘one fits all’ when it comes to therapy. My approach and style is working within a person-centred framework and I strongly value the importance of having a trusting relationship between therapist and client.

My therapy toolbox has been developed from a wide range of approaches, including Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Informed Practice and Solution-Focused Therapy. My aim is to support you in finding positive and effective solutions to making what can seem like an overwhelming situation, manageable with minimal stress.
