About me

My practice
Zarnaz is a highly experienced clinical counsellor with extensive experience working with adults and children of all age groups. She is a Clinical Member of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Association of Australia (PACFA). Since 2014, she has been employed in the community services sector, fulfilling various roles such as a Domestic Violence counsellor, drug and alcohol counsellor and child protection specialist.

Zarnaz has demonstrated significant knowledge and expertise in assisting children and families facing stressors, including domestic violence (advanced practitioner), child protection issues, parental substance misuse, parenting skills, child behavior management, learning difficulties, parental mental health issues, and social isolation. She employs a person-centered, strengths-based approach to counseling, prioritizing empathy, support, and providing a safe space for clients to discuss their concerns. She does not position herself as the ultimate expert but believes that clients are the experts in their own lives. Thus, she acts as a guide, helping clients reflect on their strengths and brainstorm strategies to overcome barriers and develop coping techniques.

Zarnaz is deeply committed to mental health and disability services, understanding the importance of supporting clients experiencing stress and trauma for their recovery and well-being. She is passionate about helping individuals achieve positive outcomes and realize their potential. Additionally, she has considerable experience and cultural competence in working with Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) and Aboriginal families. She is fluent in English, Hindi, and Urdu, confidently providing counseling services in these languages.

Zarnaz effectively utilizes a variety of therapeutic interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Motivational Interviewing, goal setting, Narrative Therapy, Polyvagal therapy, addressing triggers and cravings, and suicide intervention, among others.
