My practice
Yasmeen is an experienced Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor, and Educator with a strong background in trauma recovery, currently working with QPASTT (Queensland Program of Assistance to Survivors of Torture and Trauma) where she provides supervision and support to counsellors and practitioners working with people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, many of whom have experienced complex trauma, and systemic injustice. She holds decades of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities impacted by complex trauma, including grief, displacement, and sexual violence.
Yasmeen brings a calm, grounded, and culturally responsive approach to her work. She has a deep respect for the strength and knowledge held within communities and believes in working collaboratively to support healing and resilience. Her work is grounded in culturally responsive, client-centred, and trauma-informed approaches, and she has supported supervisees and clients from a wide range of cultural, linguistic, and community contexts—including First Nations, refugee, and asylum seeker populations. Her practice draws on a range of evidence-based approaches, always shaped by the unique needs and values of the people she’s working with.
Yasmeen holds a Master’s in Counselling and is a registered member of PACFA. Over the years, she has worked in a variety of roles across not-for-profits, community organisations, and education settings—including with children, young people, and families affected by intergenerational trauma, sexual abuse, and systemic disadvantage. She has particular expertise in working alongside those responding to sexual abuse, grief and loss, complex trauma, and suicide bereavement, and understands the layered impacts of historical and structural trauma on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and children. She also brings experience in mentoring and supervising frontline workers, creating space for reflection, learning, and emotional safety in challenging work.
With warmth, integrity, and cultural humility, Yasmeen is committed to supporting practitioners and communities in ways that honour lived experience and community wisdom.
