Medibank and ahm Telehealth Service Provisions Become Permanent

As part of Medibank and ahm’s COVID19 response, customers with eligible extras cover could access rebates for telehealth services provided by registered counsellors, psychotherapists, and psychologists.

After extensive consultation with PACFA, the APS, and the ACA, Medibank and ahm have made the decision to keep telehealth provisions as a permanent feature, joining BUPA who made telehealth permanent on eligible extras cover in 2020. Telehealth counselling and psychotherapy improves patient access to health care, and is an effective way to treat, manage, and support a patient’s mental health. PACFA welcomes the news that Medibank and ahm have taken this step in supporting their customers’ mental health.

As with the COVID19 telehealth cover, your patients will be able to claim for individual and couple/family consultations. The rebates available will depend on your patient’s level of cover, however the rebates will be the same regardless of whether the consultation is face-to-face or via telehealth. For further information on the telehealth item codes and invoicing requirements, please see our Medibank and ahm FAQs. For information on becoming a Medibank and/or ahm provider, including eligibility criteria and how to apply, please see here.
